I couldn't wait to read this book after I got it - I dove into it immediately after I received this book. But, I forgot to study for a test and scrambled to review Spanish conjugations......
It was still a good book. 😁
Anyway, here's the Goodreads synopsis: Willow Chance is a twelve-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by 7s. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn’t kept her from leading a quietly happy life...until now.
Suddenly Willow’s world is tragically changed when her parents both die in a car crash, leaving her alone in a baffling world. The triumph of this book is that it is not a tragedy. This extraordinarily odd, but extraordinarily endearing, girl manages to push through her grief. Her journey to find a fascinatingly diverse and fully believable surrogate family is a joy and a revelation to read.
This book was one of the best books that I have ever read. I am not kidding when I say this. Counting By 7's had extremely melancholy content, sometimes reducing me to tears. I had previously speculated, as I read the first couple of pages, that this would be a humdrum novel about an intelligent girl, like other books I have read. But, this book revolves around fickle feelings, and how people can behave - and how life can go in our way, or the opposite direction. Holly Goldberg Sloan, the author, has made me consider another approach to life. I would wholeheartedly, without hesitation, give this book five stars.
(BTW, did you notice that the cover has 49 blue fish, a multiple of seven? And, try to observe characteristics about the red fish....)
